CAFF priorities met: Engaging Youth and Young People; Building Local Leadership

The 2016-2017 Leadership Columbus class developed and launched the first Youth Leadership program this year. The program will follow a format similar to Leadership Columbus, with high-school-juniors from all three Columbus-area high schools participating. The goal of this program is to make students feel like they are part of the Columbus community and that their ideas are cared about -- with the ultimate hope that this connection will help to draw them back to Columbus in their adult lives.

The program was a natural fit for the Columbus Area Future Fund as it encompassed the areas of both leadership and youth. A large grant of $10,000 over three years was awarded from the Community and Capacity Building account to help pilot the program, allowing for program expenses and to help fund scholarships for three students for dual credit courses at Central Community College.
