STEAM Lab at Scotus

August 31, 2017

CAFF priorities met: Engaging Youth and Young People

Columbus Area Future Fund has awarded a $30,000 matching grant to Scotus Central Catholic for the development of a STEAM Lab (science technology engineering arts math). Scotus’ fundraising for the project includes a dinner Sep 22 featuring speaker Chuck Hagel, former U.S. Secretary of Defense, Nebraska senator, and alum of Scotus.

The STEAM Lab will allow students to utilize graphic design, music editing and video productions with the use of a green screen, robotics and 3-D printing for a hands on approach to the newest technology being used in education. The lab will help build and foster relationships with businesses in the community. By tapping into the expertise of local businesses students will have the opportunity to learn from community leaders and apply that knowledge to their work. Scotus President, Jeff Ohnoutka, hopes by developing graphic design skills Scotus can also partner with local businesses to develop new logos for their company or be involved in new branding opportunities for companies. The goal is to open the lab in August 2018.
